When you ask a person to do your photography for you wedding you look for something. You have a vision, a style and an end result. For Nicole and Troy is what an artistic vision. They were drawn to my work for capturing landscapes, then translating them into their day.
The didn’t want to go the average route, and stare at the lens. They weren’t hung up on formals, and wanted shots of the couples in attendance, as she wanted everyone of them to remember the day.Nicole and Troy are from Alaska. They decided to make Key West their spot for a Destination Wedding.
Wedding Photography to me means capturing Key West, the couple, the family, and then putting it into a blender. The end result becomes a smoothly blended aspect of each venue, each moment, and highlights the magic of The Florida Keys & Key West. It can be candid, romantic, elegant, etc. Its how you as the individual paint yourself into this canvas we call paradise.
Nicole and Troy have been together for 7 years. They island hopped back in forth between Maui and Alaska. Always thinking of one another until the infamous “blind date”, that produced this magical day for this Key West Photographer.
Nicole wore a vintage style Boat Neck wedding dress with a very short train. It was designed to be similar to the wife of George Clooney's wedding dress. It was Ivory with a Champagne undermost layer.Nicole took a Do-It-Yourself Approach to her day. She did all of the wedding planning herself. She made a doublesided sign for photos, a rice paper umbrella for a night shot that she really wanted to try, and hand stitched handkerchiefs for her parents. She wanted a timeless, emotional and artistic feel to her day. Studo Marie-Pierre for her hair and makeup artist in Key West. She booked a private charter on Danger Charters.
The wedding ceremony took place on one of their 3 shallow drafted schooners. We departed the Westin Marina and headed towards the backcountry of Key West. The clouds were showing some amazing color, which added to this day. It was full of emotion.
After the ceremony was a first for me. The whole wedding party went snorkeling, and then into the monsoon of rain on kayaks to explore the mangroves. So the wedding basically turned into an DIY Wedding in Key West with your own personal eco-tour. I like it!
End Result? A fun day filled with energy, laughter, and emotion. People cried, people laughed, but most importantly people smiled. That’s what its all about in the end. Capturing the magical mystique of the island, a family all together, and the ceremonial start to a new family. As a photographer in Key West, Florida, I am honored to have been part of the day.
