Shelby and Mikey have been together for 15 years. A true love story that started when they were 16. Shelby lived in Key West prior to the wedding, and her love for the ocean and the Florida Keys Landscape brought them to Key West again to spend their special and memorable day. She wanted to convey a day of Eclectic love, Artistic Impression, and Natural surroundings, thus the decision on Key West.
Shelby works in the field of wildlife rehabilitation and has a strong environmental science and marine biology background. As director for SaveLolita.com, a foundation for the release of Lolita from the Miami Seaquarium, she is an activist against captivity for entertainment purposes, and fights actively to help end that practice. She is a vegan, loves hockey (Go Pens!), and old school punk rock. Originally from Pennsylvania, but now resides in Ft. Lauderdale.
Mikey is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, studied at Point Blank in London, England and is a Music Engineer. Orginally from Pittsburgh, and now holds residences at numerous clubs in the South Florida region.
Shelby and Mikey show the purest form of true love. They both have deep souls that radiate with natural and pure love. They compliment each other so well, that peaceful silence is all they need. Two of the most down to earth people I have ever met. Their energy fuels others! Their love of nature and old school punk rock. They always had a crush on each other but Shelby always had a boyfriend (although that didn’t stop them). They finally started officially dating after Shelby left Maryland. When she came back Mikey broke up with his then girlfriend and they started dating. They moved in with each other a month later and the rest is history!
They picked Key West as their destination wedding. With my photographic style, I was able to match their visions with the energy and mood of the day. We gathered together aboard the Schooner America 2.0 for a ceremony at see. The wind was good, the smiles were plenty, and the energy was amazing.
Shelby really likes candid shots of the group, a memento of the fun energy and life between family and friends. Staying close together on a sailboat, shuttled to the reception by trolley, and nothing but smiles on everyones faces. When you look for a big party, Shelby and Mikey meant it. As a photographer in Key West you always want to feel like you are a part of the day. It helps you feel what they are feeling and it shows in the wedding photography.
We were able to use Cow Key Channel as our backdrop for some non-traditional formals. Making sure that the sun was not straight in someones eyes for too long, and keeping them fun. After the formals I took the couple, and we set up some artistic couples portraits using my vision. They were relaxed and the results were amazing. Soft contrast right at dusk, created a mood that showed the couples love for one another.
The reception was at Coconut Mallory Resort and Marina - Boathouse. A private area set aside at the couples favorite place to hang out when they come down to Key West. It was relaxed, fun, and unique.
Shelby went away from the norm. Her husky Samba was her maid of honor, who was dressed with a real flower bouquet leash. There were remembrances of passed family members. They had a unique topper. Shelby planned, organized, and purchased decorations. She spent a lot of time on Buzzfeed.com. She used recommendations and past experiences to tailor her day the way she wanted! I think she did a stellar job!
So whats next for these two? Enjoying each others company with their kid that has paws! Shelby is pushing a campaign for SaveLolita.com and the freeing of an orca that is on display at the Miami Seaquarium.
Words of wisdom I can give you about a wedding? Be natural. The Florida Keys have a way of fueling relaxed energy, that translates well into an image. Let the stress go, be free, and smile! Its your day and thats what all the planning was about. Enjoy it, live in it, inspire others!
